Footprint on Africa
Some of the main visual elements are a large Black image of Africa with a large White footprint on top of it. The issue the cartoonist is supposedly putting up, is that Europe is trampling over Africa leaving footprints. And he is not happy about this. The reason you can tell he isn't happy, is because if you look at the footprint there's dry land in that are. So, what the cartoonist is trying to indicate is that where ever the Europeans go, there ruining those area's.Only, to make this point stronger, and more persuasive the cartoonist might have wanted to draw some damage such as fires and war in the footprint, showing real catastrophic events. Well heres the image what do you think it's trying to say?

scramble for africa
Well the strategy i used to get land was, Divide and Conquer! When looking for land you look for, if possible, coast land for bringing in ships, and inland for crops and other things alike. Well, both France and England had pretty much the same amount of land, I would have to say England won. This is because they have allot of coast like as well as large chunks of inland so they won the scramble for Africa. But then, who lost? Technically, Africa actually lost the scramble for Africa, because by the end of it they barely owned any land at all!

Five themes
Movement
Region
.
HE; Human Environmental Interaction
Location
Place
All of these take place in the book Waiting For the Rain. Movement in the city of Johannesburg is driving in a car or simply walking as they said in the book, Tengo walked to school. Region in the book could be that they live in a township in Africa. Human Environmental Interactions can be found like when Tengo and his friend Emma were having cold drinks because of how hot it was outside. Place is also in the book because they live in a township. And lastly Place can be found in this book when Tengo is reading the directions to find the house of the Millars! And those are the five themes of geography in the book Waiting for the rain.

Drawing
Some of the main visual elements are: octopus like legs, a mans large old head, a name tag on the man that says England, and its hand on top of mounds of sand representing other countries. Politically speaking, this peace means that England is now taking over to many countries, and that they should leave those countries alone. I think the cartoonist's opinion is that is not happy that England was starting to conquer the world because other wise he wouldn't have shown England crushing all these other countries! To make this cartoon more persuasive the cartoonist might have shown allot of havoc on the countries being attacked. Well, there was contrast but not much, there was repetition with all the legs and that was good! There was also alignment, everything was equal and there was proximity, so over all the drawing was good.

does violence lead to more violence?
Violence defiantly leads to more violence, its like a cycle. An example from the real world is Iraq attacking the U.S and then the U.S wanting revenge so they go and attack Iraq. One example from the book Julius Caesar is when Cassius and the other conspirators kill Julius Caesar, then Antony and Octavius want revenge, so they seek to Cassius and the other conspirators. Like i said violence leads only to more violence.

Feedback October 15-19
Some good qualities that leaders have are; being noble, willing to sacrifice, treats others fairly, and takes on responsibility. All these qualities are important to construct a good leader.
To me, anyone who does something important or takes on a helpful role is a leader in the middle school. There for the leaders of the middle school would be people who are in Sribbler, Year Book and other clubs that contribute to our 8th grade.
The people who are in these groups have the qualities of a good leader because they all work together and decide the best decision for the middle school, they also help add something fun to the school days like wacky hair day! Thats why theses groups are the 8th grade leaders!

Humanities first Quarter Review
One thing that i did well in humanities first quarter was to keep up with all my work, getting a good grade, and having an A+ in AR reading! These are some of the goals that I'm proud of achieving.
One thing that I felt was challenging was keeping up with all the technology used in this class. This is because I'm not very good at using a computer, but for me I did quite reasonably. So over all I did quite well this first quarter!

Goals for Quarter 2
Well, I think that i have done quite well in acomplishing my goals, mostly with the reading rather than the writing. This is because i finished the Harry Potter book before the AR due date was up. Not so much with the writing because i have not yet become better at my spelling but a have maneged to write more neatly.
Three goals i will set for myself for next quarter are have all my grades above an A-, become better with my spelling, and start taking notes more effiently. This is because i was very close to getting above an A-, I need to improove on my spelling because i still make many mistakes, and i need to take better notes because because they will help for studying quizzes and tests.

Our museum is about Charlie Chaplin and the movies in the 1900’s. In our museum you will be viewing a slideshow as well as a movie clip along with some photos and facts, maybe some artifacts as well! You will learn many things about our museum topic, so let’s get started!
Charlie Chaplin, known world wide as a comedian was born in Walworth, London, England in1889, 16 April. He first started his acting at the age of 5, and from that point on he continued to act. He first came to U.S from 1910-1912 on a tour with his friend. Five months later he came back and produced many comedies such as “Making a Living.” Charlie Chaplin otherwise known as the Tramp had already become one of America’s most loved actors and was shooting out more movies then anyone had within months!
Now, let’s learn a little bit about movie’s in the 1900’s. Most movies in the 1900’s were colorless, as well as silent; except for maybe live orchestras playing while the goes on. Many of the songs played while the audiences were watching a movie were constructed to fit the every movement of what each character was doing or simply to demonstrate the climax of the story or any other expression, such as a scary tune. Many of the movies in the 1900’s were comedies as they were easier to express what was going on to the audience. Charlie Chaplin acted in many of these.

The Tramp Arrives!
By Arjun Brara
Charlie Chaplain’s hilarious character “The Tramp” has finally hit the theaters! These past few months a new character, The Tramp, hit the U.S shores in 1912 with two hot-shot films, Kid Auto Races at Venice, and Mabel's Strange Predicament. He has come eagerly with his friend Fred Karno on a long and seemingly enless boat ride, for a lager audience, as well as much more laughter, and it’s no surprise people are loving his films!
For those of you who are wondering, a Tramp is a person who is seemingly homeless and in this case also comes along with very elegant manners, the dignity of a man, as well as an abundant amount of humour! Of course a pair of lop-sided feet are included. Just the thought of that alone can make oneself laugh.
Though most people don’t know this about Charlie Chaplin, he is actually no stranger to the U.S.A but has visited this country on a tour he was taking from 1910-1912 with his friend Fred Karno who we mantioned earleir on in this peice. He later came back and acted in his first movie, Making a Living, along with movie producer Mack Sennett, a real comedy, that assured laughter!
Now, I am sure all of you must be wondering how did Charlie Chaplin become The Tramp, and why was that so important? Charlie Chaplin first started to dress up in baggy pants, a tight suit, a small mustache, a large pair of shoes, a slightly bent cane, along with a small top hat, after he filmed Making a Living as a press reporter. This costume soon came to be known as The Tramp. This character was very important as it was his first costume in his very first movie. Soon it became his everyday style. Charlie Chaplin won’t be forgotten.

Mildred Harris Letter
Dear Clair, Sept. 13, 2007
Period 2/8
As you well know, you are one of my best friends, and therefore I must tell what has happened, as you are unaware of what’s been going on here since you have moved.
First of all, the man of my dreams that married me, Charlie Chaplin, he left me! I am absolutely appalled! I had though at the time we had something in common, you know with both of our acting histories. I had started acting at the age of 11; I had though that was good enough for him. Apparently, it was not.
Although, I had on some level known we would not work out. To begin with, we only married because I had become pregnant with his baby. Sadly, my pregnancy turned out to be a false alarm. Of course, I was very disappointed and hurt. I wanted more than anything to have a child. Eventually, we ended up having a son. We named him Norman Spencer Chaplin. Much to my regret and dismay, our child was born extremely deformed and lived only three full days! How could he do this to me? Have I child with me then after it passes away leave me? He didn’t even leave the court properly, but chose to embarrass me by getting into a fist-fight with the layer after he granted me the full name of Mildred Harris Chaplin even after we had gotten a divorce!
Now, because of our age difference, that might have been a reason to le me, but now I hear word that he has married yet again to 16 year old girl called, Lita Grey. For shame! He is now thirty-five years old! Unfortunately, I just cannot seem to get past what Charlie did to me, nor can I find myself able to talk to men in an elegant, proper manner.
I have met one man called Everett Terrence McGovern who is very handsome and I truly hope something might work out with him, though not at this moment. Afterall, I am still recovering. You must keep that in mind.
I have made some new friends though, from Cheyenne, Wyoming. At least we have something to talk about, because I am from there too, but you know that. And, even though I’ve received many offers to act in movies and in theatre, all the positive goals that I have reached do not seem to cheer me up the way they did when Charlie was around. Hopefully, I will get around that.
For now that’s all the news I have. How are things with you in Germany? I sincerly hope you will write back as soon as possible.

Charlie Chaplin Interview
Sept. 7, 2007
Period 2/8
Interview with Charlie Chaplin
New York Times
Charlie Chaplin, Also known as “The Little Tramp” was born on April 16, 1889 in Walworth, London. Famed world wide as both an actor and a Comedian, Charlie Chaplin began his career at the age of five replacing his mother in a musical while she was ill. And so, his hilarious, as well as overwhelming life began.
“Why did you decide to become a comedian?”
“Well first of all comedy came naturally to me, I hardly had to practice at all. Furthermore I got a stunning burst of laughter the first time I preformed a comedy piece. It encouraged me to continue, but I wasn’t too surprised, after all I am the best comedian in the world, what else should I expect?”
“Now you were married four times did that ever affect your career?”
“Briefly, I mainly experienced depression more than anger, or anything else. And this, I admit, did affect my work during plays and any other performances. But once again, only briefly. Although, work did help to take my mind off other social matters such as divorces, and more divorces.”
“How hard was it to raise 11 children while going back and fourth between four wives?”
“Quite hard, after all I had to pay for all of there education, food, housing and many other thing, as well as provide for all my four divorced wives every now and then. So yes, it was quite difficult.”
“Was it hard to communicate to thousands of people during you’re film’s without using any words?”
“Surprisingly, no. Other things helped the viewers to understand what was going on such as the music in the background, it helped express the climax of the piece, when the most exiting moment was coming, and when It was about to end. Second of all I found it easy to communicate by doing rather than saying. So, it all worked out.”
“What do you feel was your greatest achievement?”
“Now, I can’t narrow it down to only one achievement, so I’ll say two. The first of my greatest achievements was winning an Oscar Award in 1972 for dedicating my entire life in theater, writing scripts, and lastly for my new comedy series Charlie Chaplin. The second greatest achievement was being knighted in England in 1975. Those were my two greatest achievements.
“Well, thank you for your time to today!”

Thoughts of goals 1
9/10 On the subject of accomplishing my goals "writing more neatly, and reading more fluidly" I think I've done pretty well, mostly on the writing not so much with the reading. I would give myself a 8/10. so, I'm quite happy.

Industrial Revolution
First of all, the seven positive points about the Industrial Revolution are: Better paying jobs, possibility of leaving you're home town, better life because of better payment, better and more suitable clothing, works not as hard, started the use of clocks, as well as more and better education. Five negative points about the Industrial Revolution are: larger pollution, more homes being taken by factories, more child labor, people have to leave home to work and last but not least the destruction of wild life.

Roller Coster
A Roller Coster, fun, exiting, thrilling, the wind whips through my hair. The roller slowly climbs up the step wall, there was a moment of pure silence and i knew we were going down. Shrieks, and screams and laughter filled the air and I could feel the excitement slowly crawling up within me. Swish, we went swirling down and I felt as if my stomach had completely hollowed out as the blood went rushing and swarming to my head. We slowly climbed up and i knew we were going up again.

"Necessity, the mother of invention"
I think that "necessity, the mother of invention" means that it's what we need that makes us come up with all these inventions. like wheel chairs, we need wheel chairs for our elders so we made them. Another thing we made was a car, we needed a better way of transportation so we made one, and the same rules apply for making medicine. The term"mother of invention" does not mean that there is literally a mother of invention but that necessity is the mother of inventions, and necessity is what we need to live, so we invent.

Two highlights from the first week of school are getting back with my friends and not being bored.
My first impression of humanities was very good. The class was fun and easy......so far.
My two goals for humanities are improving my writing and my reading by reading more than I usually would as well as writing more neatly and making less errors.
